Juma black shell is a modern, high-tech handle material that combines minimalist design with excellent technical properties. The material consists of a carefully composed mixture of minerals and resin, providing a homogeneous and stable structure developed specifically for artisanal products such as knife handles.
The deep black color provides a clean and elegant look, while the subtle “shell” pattern adds life and depth to the surface without becoming overwhelming. This makes the material ideal for both modern, sleek knives and more exclusive designs where detail and finish are the focus.
Juma is known for its excellent workability. The material is easy to drill, mill, sand, and polish, resulting in a smooth and premium surface with a high-quality finish. At the same time, it has high surface hardness and good resistance to wear, ensuring long durability even with frequent use.
The homogeneous structure offers a low risk of cracks or fractures, and the material is resistant to moisture, oil, grease, and common chemicals. This makes it a very stable choice compared to many natural materials.
Juma also has low water absorption and can be shaped by heating, providing extra flexibility in the design process. The surface can either be polished to a high gloss or given a more matte finish, depending on the desired look.
With dimensions around 10x40x120 mm or larger blocks, the material is well-suited for both handle scales and full-tang knife handles. The dense structure provides a comfortable feel in the hand, while the handle maintains its shape over time.
Since the material is through-dyed and homogeneous, you get a consistent and predictable result throughout the piece. At the same time, small variations in the pattern give each project a unique touch.
