Poplar burl is one of the most expressive materials in knifemaking, known for its characteristic "eyes" and the vibrant play of grain in the wood. Burls occur as irregular growths on the tree, resulting in a rich and unpredictable pattern where every blank is completely unique.
This handle blank has been stabilized with resin through a vacuum process, where the wood is fully impregnated and hardened. The result is a material that is waterproof, dimensionally stable, and highly durable. At the same time, it becomes resistant to cracking and deformation, requiring neither oil nor other post-treatment.
