They are used by pre-drilling a 5mm hole in the tang and handle, then drilling an 8mm hole partially through the handle scales from the outside, so that the bolt heads have space and a ledge to sit in when screwed together. Then, apply glue and screw the handle together so the bolts grip the handle and press it against the tang. Once the glue has cured, the tops of the screw are ground off, leaving a stylish circle of steel or brass.
