There are two main ways to calculate this. Manually and with Storbua's volume calculator. In addition, you must make assessments regarding other things you will have in the form, which can take up the volume, for example stones or wood. Choose the shape of your project, i.e. whether it is square, circular (cylinder) or triangular. Enter values in centimeters. Remember that 1mm is 0.1cm.

Manual calculation

When calculating how much epoxy you need in a mold, it is best to take the measurements in decimeters and multiply them together, that is, if the mold is 30x40 cm and you are going to cast 5mm thick, you convert this to decimeters and multiply the same. This becomes 3x4x0.05dm, which then gives the answer in liters, in this case 0.6L. However, epoxy is often sold per kg, so you have to convert it to find out how much to order.
When it comes to weight, it varies somewhat from epoxy to epoxy, but in practice it is often about 1L to 1kg, but a little less, so that 1kg is a little less than 1L as epoxy is heavier than water. For example, CCR epoxy is about 1080 grams ready mixed, which means that to fill a 0.6L mold you need at least 648 grams of Entropy CCR epoxy epoxy.

If you have other things in the form:

To find out how much you need in a mold with a different filling, for example when casting a figure or with something else that is difficult to calculate volume of, you can fill the entire mold with rice, and then measure the volume of the rice with a measuring cup.

When you are casting in a groove that has different widths along its length, such as a river table, you take several measurements along the length of the groove and take the average of these measurements as the width.
