Purple heart is a type of wood that takes on a natural purple/pink colour. The wood is popularly used for knife handles and other smaller carpentry projects. In addition, it has a relatively high density, and can therefore contribute to a good balance between blade and shaft. When the wood is cut and shaped it is a little more brownish, but the purple color develops over a short time as the wood reacts with oxygen.
